Krystal Archive Podcast Episode 42 Recorded January 8th and 9th, 2020 Year in Review 2019 =================== See all site posts from 2019. https://krystalarchive.com/2019/ Promises From Last Year ======================= How did we do on planned projects: * Launch StarFox.org - Well, it was launched, but didn't get much in the way of new content. Only the Star Fox Adventures OST was released. * Real progress on the Krystal Staff prop - Actually yes. Though I didn't post it publicly on the site, I did create a brand new model based on the Smash Ultimate Staff head in June. Since then I've restarted that, and explored some other technologies and techniques for making the other parts of the staff. I plan to go to a local plastic supply depot in the coming days to get some info on what sorts of materials I can get for doing the lighting effects on the staff's shaft. * Edit and release 2017 Ayano footage - No, haven't even looked at it. I did talk to Ayano, who suggested that, from now on, I only release the highlights of my footage of her, which I intend to do with this footage. * Release the Project Kursed Soundtrack and other assets - I have them and all, ready to go. There's just one thing. I wanted to create a playlist video for the soundtrack that will have beat-timed graphics. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to listen through the soundtrack fully a second time to arrange the tracks. They're currently out of order and there are some duplicates that wouldn't make it into the final video. Once I get that and the video done, I can release it. * Edit and Release the remaining Assault cutscenes - No. Some are ready, and it shouldn't take too long to finish them, but I haven't worked on them yet. I am also considering redoing them again to make sure they're at the highest quality. * Automate daily Krystal fanart posting - No. And I haven't been posting fanart either. More on that later. * Restore lost posts - Not at all. * Manage the 1000 emails in my inbox - It's 1067 now, but that's actually an improvement considering how many I get in a year. * Prep and launch Miiverse Krystal Art - Not at all. * Move all cosplay photos from Flickr to my own server - I did save them safely, but I haven't put them in a new place yet. Kinda pointless until I get the cosplay section working again anyway. * Update the site design with cute Krystals - Not at all. But I am looking at site designs and updates. More on that next. So there's that. Not so great, BUT! Some progress was made and some plans are in motion to do some of these more effectively. Unpublished Progress ==================== In 2019, I managed to read write some new tools and went through all of DeviantArt to find ALL Krystal fanart I could find that was clean. In the end, I downloaded 16.86GB of art and files representing some 17,500 posts, having looked at something like 200 thousand posts. All this to re-create the fanart section. I will have to do this for FurAffinity as well, but that's a much smaller scale. Once that's done, I can start organizing, deduplicating, removing inappropriate posts (or posts that aren't actually Krystal), and preparing the data to be retrievable in the fanart section. I won't be uploading the art, that's illegal. But I will have a hopefully searchable fanart listing that will have more Krystal fanart than you can possibly imagine! As I mentioned, I'm working on the Staff, albeit slowly. There's a local plastic supply place in town that I've been to before. In the coming days, I'll be visiting them to ask them about certain materials I need. It has to do with lighting the staff. Over the Christmas break, I began work on the new Krystal Archive design. It will be a statically generated site, which will be much faster and give me more control. Additionally, it will make it easier to make new pages, restore the old pages, and update the website to use much more modern techniques. The existing site was the best I could do for its time, but it hasn't had a major update since around 2012. Projects for 2020 ================= * Obviously, I want to do everything I listed above. * I really want to get the pages actually finished. The site has existed kinda as a half-finished mess for a long time due to the hacking event in 2012. It's hard to focus on static pages when most of the posts are news. * On that note, I want to find ways to get more time to update the site itself, not just the news section, as well as these other long-term projects. To do that, I'm considering doing lots of posts at first for weeks at a time, then take a break from news to work on bigger projects, giving updates as I go. That way you get both. * I have a lot of stuff I want to do for StarFox.org. I have a ton of content just waiting to be sorted and uploaded. So I want to do that stuff too. * If I can manage to make a Krystal Staff this year, at least 3 people have expressed interest in buying one. Make no mistake, they would be very expensive. I'm going for serious realism here and that means no shortcuts. But, if I do it, I am looking at producing the staff as a luxury video game prop. Just be aware, the price will probably be well over $500. * I really want to work on the site redesign. I'm excited about it, which means it'll probably happen first. * Lastly, a cool collaborative podcast idea: having formal online debates over audio chat about Star Fox and Krystal topics. I have a few ideas for what they would be. Questions & Comments ==================== None this episode. --- Send questions and comments to: mrkrystal@gmail.com krystalarchive.com
