Podcast Notes Krystal Archive Podcast #40 Recorded January 9th, 2018 The Krystal Archive is officially 12 years old! Year in Review 2017 =================== January - Not a lot of content was posted, just the excitement for Nintendo Switch Announcements. The Krystal Archive turns 11 years old on January 8th, 2017. February - Obtained a Krystal character account on social media site GAB where I would post Krystal fanart almost daily. In this month, I began trying to post something almost every day. This started with a lot of MikuMikuDance and Speedpainting videos. I created a Krystal Cosplay Group on Flickr for holding the thousands of full resolution photos I had of Ayano Harumaki and other cosplayers. Ayano Harumaki showed off her Zero Suit Samus costume for the first time. The Krystal Archive was upgraded to HTTPS for security. Further Confusion 2016 video and photos were posted. March - Nintendo Switch launches. Even more MMD and speedpaint videos. NJFox's fangame, Star Fox Adventures 2, continues to develop. Out of nowhere, a cosplay company begins selling Krystal costumes. I released an 8K emulated recording of the Star Fox Adventures cutscene where Krystal gets trapped in a crystal at the top of the Krazoa Palace. 8K is 4 times higher resolution than 4K. Star Fox Adventures glitches and new record speedruns were reported. I attended Furry Fiesta 2017 with VulpineMedia doing photos while Lylat-Mobius Adventurer did video footage for Ayano Harumaki. I think this was the first time she showed off her Zero Suit Samus costume publicly. April - April Fools Day this year featured a holographic Krystal girlfriend from Gatebox. Ayano Harumaki's Krystal cosplay was featured in a few videos and images. The Nick Robinson/Anita Sarkeesian madness happened in the form of a Twitter fight that caused Krystal to be dragged through the mud by both parties, the worst kind of attention. Small updates to fangame, Star Fox: Event Horizon occurred. Nicki Tens announced her intention to create a Krystal cosplay using a hard-mask costume similar to how Ayano's cosplay works. May - More photos of Ayano Harumaki's Krystal costume appearances at Furry Fiesta. Nintendo's T-shirt design contest concludes with one Star Fox winner. I had to step away from the site for most of the month to deal with an extremely time-sensitive cosplay project of my own. I began posting Krystal papercrafts I had recently found such as ones by Tysonanthro and Zienaxd. Otherwise, we prepared for Nintendo's E3 appearance. June - This month I made not one, but two translation errors that lead to false stories: First, that Aya Hara, the Japanese Krystal voice actress, was actually named tai-ya eech-ear-you-sai. Turns out, both names are stage names, used for different industries. We still don't know her real name. Second, a misintepretation of Miyamoto's answer to a question about potential future Star Fox anime. Turns out, he was referring to the already existing Star Fox: The Battle Begins. Ayano had a cosplay meetup at Kemoket6. More Speedpaint and papercrafts were featured, as well as some bead art. Star Fox: Event Horizon showed off its final set of levels and then released its 7th demo. I discovered dozens of Star Fox and Krystal models ripped from games on modelers-resource. Around this time, Starfox-Online transferred to new owners. I released a 3D printable Krystal trophy model. Jordan Sweeto spearheaded a new get-krystal-in-smash campaign. Nintendo had a wonderful E3 presence. I posted about several Krystal Smash mods I hadn't already posted about. Nicki Tens continued to work on her Krystal cosplay. Krystal ranks #1 in an online fan poll for Smash characters, only to find someone was being naughty and cheating. Several videos about creating Krystal characters in various games by using built-in character customization tools. The SNES Classic is announced (to almost no-one's surprise), and they announce that it will include Star Fox 2 (to literally everyone's surprise). This announcement came with brand new artwork for the game. July - Nicki Tens makes great progress 3D printing her Krystal mask, and learns a lot in the process. Arwing and Fox McCloud models from Star Fox Guard become available as MMD rigs. Much news and interviews with original Star Fox developers Dylan Cuthbert and Giles Goddard happen in light of Star Fox 2's unprecidented release announcement. Japanese cosplayer Mugi shows off her Krystal cosplay. A Krystal keychain appears on a Japanese fan product site, but is already sold out. A new glitch related to Krystal's story is discovered by Star Fox Adventures speedrunners that allows them to skip almost the entire game. ShadowSnake began work making a new Krystal mod for Smash 4 based on LittleDragon's rig and the Paultena character. I had to travel and have surgery this month, so I didn't post much. August - MMD creator SchattenKisune666 creates a new Krystal MMD rig, while other artists work with their own rigs. More Star Fox character and vehicle MMD rigs become available. Krystal prints signed by Estelle Ellis go up for sale. Several Krystal mods are posted about, such as one for Counter Strike Source and Left 4 Dead 2. I created a week long discussion about a Star Fox anime, and what things you might watch while waiting for one. My suggestions were Firefly, Guardians of the Galaxy, Storm Hawks, and Swat Kats. Bagel_of_time showed off her Krystal bust sculpture. I created an update to one of my oldest videos, showing the Aparoid Shot differences between the English and Japanese versions of Star Fox Assault in 4K. Pipita, along with several other cosplayers, did a Star Fox cosplay photoshoot, with her being the humanized Krystal. A hand-painted acrylic Krystal art piece was posted, and then immediately bought by Vulpine Media. The previously posted Krystal custom amiibo got a customized box. More Star Fox Adventures glitches are discovered. Star Fox 2 footage from the final game starts to be posted online. SNES Classic preorders go up, only to sell out instantly due to bots. I begin a weekly practice of posting 4K Star Fox Assault cutscenes for both the Japanese and English versions. For Briefing scenes, where the lipsyncing and facial animations are different, I super-imposed the English voice acting and subtitles onto the Japanese animation, to much nicer effect, most of the time. Nintendo had a Star Fox 2 presence at Pax West. I posted a funny video about a glitch at the end of Star Fox Adventures that required me to get 16K video, which is insane. I posted about the_real_seal's human-Krystal cosplay, who did a really good job posing for photos. Nintendo posted a brand new instruction manual, interview, and development documents relating to Star Fox 2. Beginning of September - Scaeling released his Krystal mod for Smash 4 which replaces Fox with Krystal. He hopes to work on it more in the future. NJ Fox continued working on his Star Fox Adventures 2 fangame, getting it close to version 4. On September 3rd, I recorded the Krystal Archive Podcast episode #39, live as an OBS stream. It was quite the learning experience. Old News Since Last Podcast =========================== Read directly off the site as I scrolled through the stories. New News ======== Ayano Harumaki is still recovering, but she should start feeling well enough to begin cosplaying again this year. I don't know here plans at this time. Shutting down Krystal art Gab and instead moving to daily Krystal fanart posts on the main social channels. Looking for people to help: * Fanart researcher and manager * Discord moderator Purchased starfox.org with plans to make it an archive-focused site. It won't focus on news, but instead official work and Star Fox research. * Adventures and Assault voice acting will be transferred there * All the Smash Bros Brawl cameo clips will also be featured there * Star Fox Command: All the Words will get an update and be moved there * Dinosaur Planet research and file hosting * Eventually, cutscenes, promo art, and other official Star Fox resources will be featured there 3D Projects * The Regressor is currently working on a low-poly Star Fox 64-inspired version of Krystal that will be fully rigged and released for free * WarfareMachine released a NSFW model a few months ago, followed by a more detailed version 2.0 that was available for purchase only, not free. I couldn't post about because of it's sexual nature. However, he and I worked out a deal so that he will create a clean version that we will distribute for free, so long as it isn't used for mature things. * Trying to commission a 3rd artist to create a detailed, stylized Krystal closer to something that Disney animation studios or Dreamworks might make. If it does get built, it will be rigged and released for free. * Hopefully, some or all of these will be 3D printable. I suspect the SF64 version will be very easy to print, perhaps even with adjustable limbs. Who wants a Krystal action figure?
